2011 Fun Run/Walk
On Saturday, November 5, 2011, over 1,000 people hit the trails of Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park to participate in Lung Cancer Connection's 3rd Annual 5K Fun Lung Run/Walk. Chilly temperatures didn't dampen the crowd's enthusiasm for the event, which attracted lung cancer survivors, family members, friends, and medical professionals. Donations totaled nearly $80,000!
"We were overwhelmed by the response from the community in our efforts to bring support and information to lung cancer patients and those who love them. So many people have felt alone and without choices when faced with this diagnosis, and the attendance of over 1,000 people is proof positive that it is time to change this."

One hundred percent of all contributions to Lung Cancer Connection stay in St. Louis to assist people affected by lung cancer, support lung cancer research, and fund lung cancer education projects for patients, medical professionals, and the public. LCC partners with St. Louis area hospitals to distribute free lung cancer information bags to newly diagnosed patients. LCC also partners with the Cancer Support Community to underwrite St. Louis's only lung cancer support group.
And in 2012, LCC will work with SSM Cancer Care to sponsor free CT screenings for high risk individuals who are either uninsured or cannot afford to pay for the test themselves. Final results of the 2011 National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) showed that participants who received low-dose helical CT scans had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from lung cancer compared to participants who were screened with standard chest X-rays. Lung Cancer Connection is proud to help make CT scans available to those in need, thereby increasing the chances of identifying and successfully treating lung cancer in its earliest stages.
Lung Cancer Connection, Inc., the only lung cancer advocacy group in St. Louis, is making significant strides towards raising awareness about the alarming facts of this disease, which claims nearly 160,000 lives each year -- more than breast, prostate, colon, and liver cancers combined.
